Stamatis Paleocrassas Opts To Remain In-State With Queens University Of Charlotte (2023)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

North Carolina native Stamatis Paleocrassas has announced his verbal commitment to Queens University of Charlotte. Paleocrassas is wrapping up his senior year at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, and swims year-round with the YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team.

I’m so excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at Queens University of Charlotte! I am incredibly grateful to my family, teammates, coaches and friends for their endless support, and to Coaches Dugdale, Lau and Eriksson for giving me this opportunity. Go Royals!”

Paleocrassas is a mid-distance free and fly specialist. This past December, he competed at Winter Juniors – East, where he earned 74th in the 50 free (20.99) and 92nd in the 100 free (46.71). He also contributed to all five of his team’s relays, including leading off the 200 freestyle relay in a 21.18.

Earlier in the season at the NC YOTA Capital Classic, Paleocrassas set a slew of personal best times. His highest finish was 2nd in the 100 free, where he dropped nearly a second to post a 45.87. He also  finished 6th in the 200 free with a personal best by over two seconds (1:42.60), and 6th in the 100 fly with a best time by a second (51.34).

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 20.91
  • 100 free – 45.87
  • 200 free – 1:42.60
  • 100 fly – 51.34

Queens University of Charlotte is currently a year into the transitional period to Division I status. They accepted an invitation to the ASUN Conference, but compete in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) as ASUN does not sponsor swimming & diving.

Prior to the transition, Queens was dominant in Division II. Both the men and women had won seven straight National Championships leading up to the move to DI. In the CCSA, the men picked up right where they left off and claimed the 2023 CCSA Championship title.

Matej Dusa and Daniel Meszaros went 1-2 in the 100 free at conference, clocking times of 42.78 and 43.10, respectively. Joining them in the A-final was Kimani Gregory, who finished 6th with a 45.09. It took a 45.98 to advance to the B-final this year, meaning Paleocrassas’ best time is just within scoring range. Dusa and Meszaros will both overlap with Paleocrassas for at least a year, giving Queens the chance to add even more depth to their sprint squad.

Joining Paleocrassas in Queens’ class of 2027 is Cade Hickson, Nien Levy, Ben Sheets, Dowl Bowen, and TJ Spokas. Levy and Spokas both overlap with Paleocrassas’ events, as Levy owns best times of 20.44/44.66/1:40.16 while Spokas comes in at 21.19/46.12/1:39.59 in the 50/100/200 free.
