St. Bonaventure Swimming and Diving top the Canisius Golden Griffins

MEN

The St. Bonaventure Men’s Swimming and Diving team won eight events and set two Canisius pool records on its way to a 141-99 win Saturday morning.

The depth of the Bonnies team was put on display Saturday morning. St. Bonaventure won six individual evets with six different swimmers taking home the titles.

Event winners for the Bonnnies were Viacheslav Shuchukin in the 200-yd freestyle (1:44.74), Matthew Goettler in the 50-yd freestyle (22.36), Ripley Danner in the 200-yd I.M. (1:56.69), Michael White in the 200-yd butterfly (1:52.78), Michael Pilyugin in the 100-yd freestyle (47.36) and Vatslav Lets in the 200-yd backstroke (1:53.44).

McNamee’s team also captured two relay events. In the 400-yd medley relay, the team of Shchukin, Preston Schilling, Matt Rochna and Matt Taccard captured the title in a time of 3:28.34. In the final race of the meet, Pilyugin, Lets, Danner and Shchukin won the event with a winning time of 3:05.85.

In the 100-yd freestyle, Pilyugin’s winning time of 47.36 set a new canisius pool record. In the final relay, the Bonnies winning time of 3:05.85 also set a new pool record.

Next Up: The Bonnies will take a break from their duel meet schedule to compete in the University of Pittsburgh Invitational. The Invitational is a three day event beginning next Friday, Nov. 21, and continuing until the 23rd.

WOMEN

The St. Bonaventure Women’s Swimming and Diving team came up just short Saturday morning falling to the Canisius Golden Griffins 119-115.

The Bonnies won seven events Saturday morning, but the depth of Canisius proved too much for St. Bonaventure to overcome.

The Bonnies were led by a pair of double winners: Tanja Kirmse and Michaela Ryan. Kirmse continues to dominate the competition as she captured two more individual titles in the 200-yd Freestyle (1:55.90) and the 100-yd freestyle (54.02). Freshman Ryan had a breakout meet Saturday winning the 1,000-yd freestyle (10:40.13) and the 500-yd freestyle (5:15.52).

Other event winners for the Bonnies were Lauren Caldwell in the 200-yd I.M. (2:14.11), Elizabeth Malone in the 200-yd Butterfly (2:07.81) and Adelyn Graf in the 200-yd backstroke (2:09.92)
