WASHINGTON – St. Bonaventure swept the men’s swimming and diving weekly awards with senior Ben O’Neill capturing Men’s Performer of the Week and his freshman teammate Emanuele Zingaro receiving Men’s Rookie of the Week. Richmond sophomore Lena Amare was tabbed as Under Armour Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Tuesday, are for competitions from January 5 – 11.
O’Neill, from Royal Oak, MI, earned a first-place finish in the 1-meter dive event against St. Bonaventure’s meet with Cornell. He won the 1-meter behind a score of 320.85, while earning silver in the 3-meter dive (319.28). O’Neill’s 1-meter dive ranks third in the conference and his 3-meter dive ranks sixth.
Zingaro, a Varese, Italy native, swam to a first-place finish in a dual meet against Cornell. He won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 45.25, securing the 17th fastest time in the conference.
In the William & Mary Quad meet, Amare led Richmond with a victory in the 200-yard IM, touching the wall first in 2:03.87 to earn a NIC B cut. She also led the Spiders with a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard free in 1:52.69, which helped Richmond defeat Old Dominion, 243-51. Amare, a native of Fairhope, Ala., holds the sixth fastest time in the conference for the 200IM and 19th best in the 200-free.
