CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois Salukis took home the first place title at the program’s annual mid-season invitational, the A3 Performance Invite. Both the men’s and women’s teams thrived in the water, finding the top placement in all events except one, and rallying up 1353 (women) and 1214.5 points (men).

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
The women’s quartet of Nicole Horton, Lucia Romero, Celia Pulido, and Sierra Forbord found the wall first and took home the school record in the 400-free relay.
Since marking an NCAA “B” cut in the 100-back, Celia Pulido now owns the pool and school record from her 1:54.26 performance in the 200-back in the evening.
Melanie Scheiblein persevered again in the breaststroke. The sophomore took home the top spot in the 200-breast, outswimming teammates Ella Kerr and Ali Robertson at 2:17.00.
Distance swimmer senior Eden Girloanta made her mark of the first mile swim of the season. Girloanta clocked in 17:03.54 in the women’s 1650-free to kick off the evening’s events.
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
Shooting for a break at the 15-minute mark, junior Ian Marshall narrowed but struck the first place title in the 1650-free (15:51.53).
Breaking the school and pool record last held since 2015, Hungarian Donat Csuvarszki found the top spot in the 100-free, clocking in at 43.58 and earning an NCAA “B” cut.
Adam Cernek found his fastest time in the 200-back this season. The junior narrowed in to his previously set school record, missing by just a few at 1:44.62.
Closing out the evening and the final event of the invitational was the men’s 400-free relay. The Saluki relay A squad of Zheng Yang Yeap, Zander Minano, Will Chavez, and Csuvarszki inched to the school record, missing, yet taking home the first place title at 2:56.83 and finding the groove for the rest of the season.
