South Carolina’s Kyle Korvick Nominated For SEC McWhorter Post-Grad Scholarship

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (April 22, 2026) – Ruby Voortmeyer of the South Carolina equestrian team and Kyle Korvick of the Gamecocks’ men’s swimming and diving team have been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship by the University of South Carolina.

The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league’s top male and female scholar-athletes.

The Southeastern Conference will name the 2026 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship in late April.

Highlights of South Carolina’s nominees include:

RUBY VOORTMEYER, South Carolina, Equestrian

Major: Mechanical Engineering

  • NCEA All-Academic First Team (2026, 2025)
  • Three-time NCEA Academic Honor Roll (2026, 2025, 2024)
  • Four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll (2026, 2025, 2024, 2023)
  • Helped lead team to National Championship (2026)
  • Member of SEC Championship team (2025)
  • Made over 20 starts in Horsemanship for the Gamecocks, including all three NCEA meets in route to the 2026 National Championship
  • Earned a career-high of 75.25 during 2026 season
  • Every career win has come against a top-10-ranked opponent

KYLE KORVICK, South Carolina, Swimming and Diving

Major: Biological Sciences

  • Three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll (2026, 2025, 2024)
  • SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll (2023)
  • Earned 11 top eight finishes throughout the 2025-26 dual season
  • Posted top-five times on the team in every event he competed during the 2025 season, highlighted by the second-fastest time in the 200 free
  • Made the SEC Championship roster all four years at South Carolina, where he individually competed in the 100, 200 and 500 free

The SEC provides the league’s male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients with a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship.  The 30 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship.

The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 16 SEC institutions.

Last year’s McWhorter Award recipients were Mason Nichols of the Ole Miss baseball team and Abby McCulloh of the Georgia swimming and diving team.
