LOUDONVILLE, NY – It was a super Senior Day sendoff for the Siena Swimming and Diving team as the Saints soared on the diving board and delivered a complete performance in a 176-74 victory over Saint Peter’s at the Siena Swim Center on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Claire Donlon reigned supreme on the diving board, winning both the three-meter and one-meter events with 273.23 points scored in the former and accrued 248.55 points in the later event, winning both with ease.
The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Gabrielle Rentosa, freshmen Kayla Lombardo and Clara Samko and junior Mea Amedio finished first in 1:50.05.
Samko took first place in the 50-yard fly in 26.13 and was a double winner on the day as she also won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.01. Another double winner was sophomore Leslie Dame, who earned a victory in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.47 and had enough to also win the 100-yard freestyle in 55.51.
Freshman Julia Filiault edged out teammate Lombardo by .30 of a second to win in 1:11.02. The 200-yard freestyle was won by GayLynn Kirn, who breezed to a 1:56.91 finish.
Lombardo won in the 50-yard breaststroke in 32.42, getting just enough to beat out the Peacocks’ Madison Petricevic (32.89).
Rentosa touched the wall first in the 50-yard backstroke in 28.34.
Siena has now won each of the 10 head-to-head all-time meetings with Saint Peter’s dating back to 1999.
Prior to the meet, a senior day tribute to Grace Neno, Kaci Owens, Leana Padunina and Brooke Pociask was made with several Siena teammates also providing recollections and memories forged while they were at Siena together.
Siena (5-8, 3-3 MAAC) will next head to the MAAC Swimming and Diving Championship at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH from Wednesday, Feb. 11 through Saturday, Feb. 14.

LOUDONVILLE, NY—The Saint Peter’s women’s swimming team closed their MAAC dual schedule Saturday afternoon with a head-to-head meet at Siena Swim Center, falling 176–74 in its final conference match up before the MAAC Championships. Despite the result, the Peacocks collected 11 podium finishes, highlighted by individual golds from Francesca Solano Vargas in the 100 backstroke and Gwendolyn Mendez in the 100 IM.
The 200 medley relay squad of Madison Petricevic, Gwendolyn Mendez, Paige Austin-Burrows, and Elettra Dalcerri opened the meet with a third-place finish, touching the wall in 1:54.07. Siena’s A relay took first in 1:50.05, followed by Siena B in 1:53.29.
Solano Vargas and Maddie McKinney went 1-3 in the 100 backstroke, with Solano Vargas out-touching Siena’s Mary Ellen Stratman by .17 seconds to take gold in 1:02.17. McKinney followed closely in 1:02.57.
Eloise Schirtzinger secured a pair of bronze finishes, placing third in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle with times of 1:14.48 (SB) and 58.76, respectively.
Austin-Burrows earned bronze in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.62, while Siena’s Clara Samko claimed gold in 25.01. Petricevic added a silver finish in the 50 breaststroke, touching the wall in 32.89, just behind Siena’s Kayla Lombardo (32.42).
Mendez and Chris Carolin Weiss went 1-2 in the 100 IM, with Mendez claiming gold in 1:05.12 and Weiss posting a personal best of 1:06.55.
The Peacocks closed the afternoon on a high note, sweeping the top two spots in the 200 freestyle relay. SPU A–Austin-Burrows, Petricevic, McKinney, and Dalcerri–finished first in 1:43.02, followed by SPU–Schirtzinger, Niela Dawlett, Solano Vargas, and Mendez–in 1:50.57.
