The second and final day of competition unfolded at the 2025 Vladimir Salnikov Cup and it brought a new European Junior Record at the hands of Mikhail Shcherbakov.
Racing in the final of the men’s 200m IM, 17-year-old Shcherbakov fired off a time of 1:52.21 to reap gold and down his own previous EJR.
It was just last month that the teen’s lifetime best of 1:52.75 notched at the Russian SC Championships overtook Olympic champion Hubert Kos‘ previous EJR.
Kos of Hungary set the former benchmark at 1:52.87, a time he produced at the 2021 European Short Course Championships to place 4th overall.
Shcherbakov managed to slice just over half a second off his former effort to establish the new EJR, with the largest difference coming on the breaststroke leg.
