There seems to be a misconception that swimmers are fish out of water, but not for the Rutgers Swimming and Diving Team. On March 31st, along with other Rutgers Athletic teams participated in Rutgers University Dance Marathon (RUDM), which is a student-run philanthropic event in New Jersey to raise money in support of children with cancer, sickle cell, and other serious illnesses. RUDM lasts all weekend long where there is no sleeping, only dancing with various events taking place in between to keep the fun alive.

This year, RUDM raised $1,038,986.13 with 100% of the proceeds going to Embrace Kids Foundation. You can find more information about RUDM and Embrace Kids Foundation here: http://give.embracekids.org/site/TR?fr_id=1110&pg=entry

For the past three years, Rutgers Athletics has joined forces with RUDM to allow different sports teams at Rutgers to create a dance routine to perform on stage with a trophy to be given to the team with the best routine. Women’s Field Hockey has won for three years straight, but that streak was broken when the Women’s Swimming and Diving team took them down during a dance off. In the video, the dance off is towards the end, starting at 15:03. https://www.facebook.com/RUDanceMarathon/videos/10155150311279872/

It is great to see Rutgers Athletics getting involved with philanthropic events to help those in need and give back to the community. Let’s see if the Swim and Dive team can defend their title next year!
