Rice’s Clark Wins Conference USA Swimmer of the Week

Rice junior Casey Clark has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week for January 21st-27th, the conference announced Tuesday. That marks the 4th time this season that Clark has won the award.

Her latest honor came after a pair of good swims in Arkansas over the weekend.

First, on Saturday against SEC opponent Arkansas, Clark won the 200 free in 1:49.98. In the process, she beat Arkansas’ Lauren Jordan, who is a past NCAA Championship qualifier. She was also the runner-up in the 100 free with a 51.46, and the runner-up in the 100 fly in 55.78.

Then on Saturday, in nearby Little Rock against Arkansas-Little Rock, Clark won the 100 back (1:00.56) and the 200 IM (2:08.22).

Clark’s primary events are the 200 free, the 100 fly, and the 200 fly, and she’s on the bubble for qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row.

The Owls will finish their regular season in Houston next weekend, with a two-day quad meet against Houston, LSU, and Tulane.

Meanwhile, East Carolina’s Colleen Jones was named the Conference USA Diver of the Week thanks to a career-best score of 297.83 in her team’s tri-meet against Catawba and UMBC. That score makes her an NCAA Zone Championship qualifier.

The Pirates finish of their season with a meet next weekend against William & Mary (plus the UNC-Wilmington divers), and then one last home meet against Campbell for the women’s team.
