Florida Aquatics Swimming & Training hosted a pair of meets on back-to-back Saturdays following the FHSAA High School State Championships to provide swimmers with an opportunity to get some more racing in while they’re riding a taper.
The highlight swim of either meet came from Laker Swim’s Reef McMeeking, who competed on Nov. 16, one day after being disqualified in the heats of the boys’ 100 breast at the FHSAA 3A State Championships.
McMeeking, a 14-year-old freshman at Seabreeze Senior High School, chipped seven one-hundredths off his personal best time in the event at the FAST High School Open, clocking 55.48 to lower his previous PB of 55.55 set in early November at the FHSAA 3A Region 1 Championships.
The performance moves McMeeking up one spot into 7th all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group.
All-Time Performers, Boys’ 13-14 100 Breaststroke (SCY)
- Reece Whitley, 53.06 – 2014
- Michael Andrew, 53.88 – 2014
- Shareef Elaydi, 54.66 – 2024
- Wilson York, 54.94 – 2024
- Ethan Dang, 55.06 – 2016
- Luke Zardavets, 55.45 – 2023

- Ethan Zhou, 55.54 – 2025
- Eli Siniak, 55.87 – 2024
- Noah Cakir, 55.94 – 2022
Had McMeeking gone that time in the FHSAA 3A state final, he would have placed 2nd to Allen Nease junior Luke Zardavets, who defended his title in 55.12.
Zardavets was also racing at the second FAST High School Open meet, opting for the 200 breast. The 16-year-old put up a season-best time of 1:59.55, ranking him 5th in the country this season in the 15-16 age group. The Florida commit’s PB stands at 1:56.96 from this past March.
One week earlier, at the first edition of the High School Open, Prakhanthi Rai (Thi Rai) of the Bolles School Sharks was the standout, setting new lifetime bests in the 200 breast and 200 IM.
In the 200 breast, the 16-year-old clocked 1:56.58 to rank him 22nd all-time in the boys’ 15-16 age group and 2nd this season, while in the 200 IM, his time of 1:48.92 ranked him 6th this season for 15-16 boys.
One day earlier, the Thai native won the FHSAA 1A state title in the 100 breast, setting a new PB of 53.44.
