The 11th edition of the Asian Aquatics Championships is nearly upon us, with swimming action beginning on Sunday, September 28th.

Organized by Asia Aquatics, the governing body of aquatics in Asia, the competition is being hosted by Ahmedabad, India. Typically held every four years, the last time the multi-disciplinary meet was conducted was 2016 in Tokyo, Japan.

The 2020 version was originally supposed to take place in the Philippines but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was first moved to November 2021 but lingering effects of the pandemic and travel restrictions forced another delay to 2023.

The competition was ultimately replaced with the Asian Age Group Swimming Championships, which took place in early 2024.

The Asia Aquatics Championships typically attracts the major talent of aquatic disciplines, with swimmers to the tune of Daiya Seto of Japan, Park Tae Hwan of South Korea and Wang Shun of China all having reaped medals at the last edition.

China topped the overall swimming medal table with 49 medals in total in 2016, including 18 gold, while Japan was a strong runner-up with 49 medals of its own. South Korea rounded out the top three finishers on a national level.

We’re awaiting the entries on the official website, but Asian media reports that world record holder Qin Haiyang of China will be in attendance along with teammates Wang Haoyu, Xu Haibo, Xie Yixi, Wang Gukailai and Li Taiyu.
