The Polish swimmers finished off the opening day of the 2025 European Short Course Championships in style, winning the host country’s first two medals of the competition in the women’s and men’s 4×50 freestyle relays in record fashion.
Both Polish relays set new National Records, with the women claiming bronze and then the men following up with a silver.
In the women’s relay, the quartet of Kasia Wasick (23.57), Kornelia Fiedkiewicz (23.70), Julia Maik (24.04) and Barbara Lesniewska (24.44) combined for a time of 1:35.75, taking out the previous Polish Record of 1:35.94, set at the 2021 SC Euros where the team also featured Wasick and Fiedkiewicz on the first two legs and won bronze.

In the men’s race, Poland came from behind to win the silver thanks to two blistering splits over the middle 100.
The team sat back in 7th after Piotr Ludwiczak‘s opening leg of 21.30, and then moved up one spot to 6th after Ksawery Masiuk‘s 20.62 split, though they were just 17 one-hundredths back of 2nd place at the halfway mark.
Kamil Sieradzki then dropped a 20.71 split swimming third, moving the team into the bronze medal position, and then Mateusz Chowaniec anchored in 21.00, running down Ukraine to snare silver in a time of 1:23.63.
The performance improved on the previous Polish Record of 1:23.74, set at the 2019 SC Euros, where they also won the silver medal.

Masiuk is no 200 backstroker
If he goes to Texas (do we have any sort of confirmation that he’s joining at some point?) this split confirms him landing as the freestyler on both medleys.
What do you think this projects in a yards format? I was thinking 18.5/18.6, am I off?
He still has the instagram post where it says he signed pinned and a week ago I think he was putting up the hook em emoji on someone’s comment section, might have been Tuncelli’s commitment.
I would say 18.4. The number of guys splitting 20.8 to 21.0 makes me think that’s about 18.6-18.8.
Gotcha. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s faster than 18.4. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he’s a faster freestyler than Gould. I wanna see what Gould can do in a 50 fly with a flying start but with Hubert rejoining the varsity team in the spring, Gould might be completely off the medley relays for this year.
I doubt he will end up in Texas. He supposed to be there this fall, and he isn’t -with no explanation. 👎🏻
