The 2026 Lithuanian Championships kicked off in Vilnius yesterday and already a trio of national records bit the dust, all coming on the women’s side of the house.

19-year-old Smilte Plytnykaite got the party started with a new Lithuanian benchmark of 26.51 to take the women’s 50m butterfly.

She held off Barbora Mileisyte, who touched shortly after in 26.72, while Maari Randvali rounded out the podium in 27.19.

As for Plytnykaite, who is set to race for the University of Virginia in the NCAA this Fall, her time last night sliced .13 off her own previous national standard of 26.65 she established at the 2025 edition of these championships.

The women’s 200m freestyle also saw its national record go down, with Ieva Jurkunaite getting it done for gold in 1:58.62, the sole time of the pack under the 2:00 barrier.

Jurkunaite split 28.07/30.87 (58.94)/30.17/29.51 to erase the former LTU national record of 1:59.13 Sylvia Statkevicius put on the books at the 2024 Canadian Trials.

That means Jurkunaite, who is just 17 years of age, became the first-ever Lithuanian female to have ever dipped under the 1:59 threshold in the event.

Iva Nainyte snagged silver in the race, well behind in 2:02.10 and Ieva Visockaite earned the bronze in 2:03.07.

Finally, Emilija Pociute was the top performer in the women’s 100m backstroke, registering a lifetime best of 1:01.41 to check in with a new national record.

Pociute opened in 29,95 and closed in 31.46 to hold a narrow advantage over Randvali, who settled for silver just .14 later in 1:01.55.

Yuliia Tkachenko also landed on the podium in 1:03.53, good enough for bronze.

Pociute’s effort overtook the former NR of 1:01.59 Justine Murdock logged at the 2024 European Championships.
