PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving begins its 2020-21 season with a two-day meet against local rival West Virginia on Jan. 13-14 and hosts Army on Jan. 30, head coach John Hargis announced Thursday. The Backyard Brawl begins in Morgantown, W.V. with just the diving squads competing, and the swimming squads square off the next day at Trees Pool.

The diving portion at West Virginia starts at 10:30 a.m. Swimming begins with the women at 11 a.m. followed by the men at 3 p.m.

A start time is yet to be determined for the Army meet.

“We’re just excited to race finally,” Hargis said. “Our kids have done a good job abiding by the COVID protocols and staying safe and healthy and are ready to compete against other schools. West Virginia is a well-coached team, which is very evident in the progress that program has made the last few years. Last year they got the better of us, so we know the challenge that awaits us. We’re ultimately looking forward to it and can’t wait to start our season.”

No fans are allowed to attend either meet. A live results link and list of events will be displayed on Pitt’s swimming & diving schedule when announced.
