Permian High School Swim Coach Kathryn Maples Gets Trial Date in Texas

Former Permian High School (Texas) swim coach Kathryn Maples has received her court date for when she will face three charges of “improper relationship between an educator and a student,” according to the Odessa American.

Maples, a former swim coach and history teacher at the school, has an October 20th trial date, where the case will be heard for three second-degree felonies over an alleged relationship with a 17-year old student. The age of consent in Texas is 17, but the state has separate laws prohibiting a sexual relationship between an educator at a public or private secondary or primary school and a student.

She was first arrested in June of 2013.

Maples is one of five teachers in the last two years from Permian High School who has been accused of having an improper relationship with a student. Of those five, one has been disposed of with a not guilty finding.
