Pepperdine Women Head South For WCC Cup With San Diego, Loyola Marymount

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team takes a break from dual competition this weekend to participate in the WCC Cup with San Diego and Loyola Marymount.

Meet 9: Friday and Saturday (January 21-22) at USD Sports Center Pool in San Diego, Calif.: Pepperdine at WCC Cup

The meet will consist of both diving and swimming each day. Pepperdine will compete in four dual meets, going up against both San Diego and Loyola Marymount on Friday and Saturday.

The Waves were last in competition in dual meets at Fresno State and CSU Bakersfield this past weekend. On Friday in Fresno, the team of Kara Coughlin (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen HS), Emily Morton (Golden, Colo./Lakewood HS), Lexie Deitemeyer (Golden, Colo./Golden HS) and Alexandra Browne (Arlington, Va./Washington-Liberty HS) took second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.09. Morton was rewarded by her strong showing in the 200-yard freestyle by placing second as well with a time of 1:58.32. She also took second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.74. In the 500-yard freestyle, Lindsay Hemming (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte HS) paced the Waves with a second-place finish and a time of 5:14.02.

On Saturday in Bakersfield, Morton took home first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:10.77. The 200 free relay team of Browne, Jasmine Williams (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS), McKenzie Kelly (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School/California Baptist) and Emma Purdy (Truckee, Calif./Truckee HS) claimed victory with a time of 1:41.18 to finish the meet in style.

Additionally, Morton earned her first weekly PCSC award of the season as she was named the conference’s swimmer of the week.

Following Saturday’s meet, Pepperdine will be home for its final dual meet of the season next Saturday, January 29 as the Waves host Azusa Pacific. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Ticket information can be found at pepperdinewaves.com/tickets.
