Olympic Trials Qualifier, #14, Connor Boyle Verbally Commits to Virginia

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school junior Connor Boyle has verbally committed to the University of Virginia as a member of the high school class of 2021. Boyle, who trains with the Fox Valley Swim Team and Nequa Valley High School in Naperville, Illinois, is a fast-rising sprinter who hit his first Olympic Trials cut this summer. Boyle is the 14th-ranked swimmer in the high school class of 2021.

I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Virginia. I’m thankful to my family, friends, and coaches for their unwavering support throughout my journey. Go Hoos!!  🔶🔷  #wahoowa #shift2021

Boyle’s best 50 yard freestyle of 20.17 was actually done in a summer league championship meet, so it doesn’t appear in the USA Swimming SWIMS database. His fastest in USA Swimming-sanctioned competition is 20.26, and that swim ranked him 12th among all 16-year olds nationally last season. If the 20.17 were an official swim, that would move him into the top 10.

His 20.17 came a week after hitting his Olympic Trials cut in the 50 free in long course at the Minneapolis Sectionals in 23.19. By the end of the summer, he had shaved that down to 23.11, all of which was down from a 23.77 the summer prior.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 20.17
  • 100 free – 44.43
  • 200 free – 1:38.63
  • 100 back – 53.95
  • 100 fly – 52.33
  • 200 IM – 1:54.60
  • 400 IM – 4:10.73

He joins a big class of 2021 for Virginia that includes Max IidaTyler SiciganoMatthew StyczenColin Bitz, and Jack Aikins.

Among that class, he’s easily the best sprinter, joined by Sicigano (20.99/45.95), who is really more of a butterflier but extends well to the sprint freestyles. In unison with Styczen, Boyle is either the first or second best swimmer in the group for the Cavaliers, but as a sprinter (Styczen is an IMer and distance freestyler), he’s the most important.

He is from the same home town, albeit a different high school, as current Virginia women’s diver Sydney Dusel.
