Ohio State Synchro Hosts North Regional Championship Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized (artistic) swimming hosts its final home meet of the year Saturday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes welcome Michigan and Minnesota to Columbus for the North Regional Championship.

The meet will start at 2 p.m. and admission is free. Paid parking is available in the lots and garages surrounding the facility.

Prior to the meet, the Buckeyes will recognize 2024 seniors Emily ArmstrongVictoria CarlsonCarol Walsh and Megan Wong.

Meet Schedule
Saturday’s meet begins with the Buckeyes’ senior ceremony at 2 p.m. Routine competition is as follows:

  • 2:15 – Trio
  • 2:35 – Duet
  • 2:55 – Solo
  • 3:35 – Team

Buckeyes as of Late
At the Cactus Classic, the trio of Emily ArmstrongHannah Heffernan and Emma Spott finished first with a score of 131.5833. Armstrong and Heffernan scored a 163.8500 in duet to win the category. Armstrong won the solo category with a season-best score of 180.8167 and Heffernan took second with a 156.6542.

The rest of the Buckeye squad traveled to Virginia to compete against Richmond. Maddie Romney earned her first win in solo, earning a routine score of 124.733. Teaming up in duet for the first time in competition this season was Gabriella Molano Arango and Romney and they went on to win the category with a score of 119.5625. Ohio State’s team routine comprised of Romney, Molano Arango, Victoria CarlsonRikki Evans and Marian Catahan took first in the category, scoring a 157.4542. Carol WalshVenice ShodaLilly Ortiz and Angelie Roger swam to a second-place finish with a score of 154.4750.

2024 Buckeyes
This year is the 48th season of the synchronized (artistic) swimming program at Ohio State. Head coach Holly Vargo Brown is in her 12th season at the helm of the Buckeyes. Vargo Brown is assisted by Monica Velazquez-Stiak, who is in her second season on Ohio State’s coaching staff.

The Buckeyes return eight members of the 2023 national championship team. Of those returners, five were part of the 2022 title-winning team. Ohio State’s roster represents four countries with student-athletes from Canada, Colombia, Peru and the United States. The team is made up of eight freshmen, three sophomores, three juniors, one senior and a graduate.

The Buckeyes will have four weeks to prepare for the 2024 U.S. Collegiate Championships. The championship meet will be held March 21-23 in Dallas, Texas.
