Oakland Comes Away with Sweep in Matchup With Green Bay

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The men and women’s swim teams combined for 26 first place finishes in their 193-107 (men) and 226-74 (women) win over the Green Bay Phoenix. In addition to these first place finishes, 12 of them set new top times in the Horizon League.

Marko Khotynetskyi continues to swim extremely well as he tallied four more first place finishes in today’s meeting. Khotynetskyi won the 200 free (1:40.08), the 100 free (45.36), the 200 IM (1:51.58) and was a leg on the 200 medley relay with teammates Ryan GehebMack Flowers and Christian Bart.

Susan LaGrand also continues to shine as she recorded numerous first place finishes in the women’s dominant victory over Green Bay. LaGrand and her relay team of Sydney McDowellGrace Shinske and Katie Colwell won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.74 while LaGrand went on to win the 100 fly (55.60) and the 200 IM (2:03.48).

Bernie Turchi and Jordan Smith led the way on the diving board as they both won the one and three meter dive events. Turchi tallied scores of 259.27 (one-meter) and 250.12 (three-meter) while Smith earned 265.05 (one-meter) and 301.43 (three-meter).

Sohvi Nenonen won the 200 free with a time of 1:51.91 as well as the 500 free, clocking in at 4:59.92. Both times were new Horizon League bests. Nenonen along with teammates Katie ColwellEmily Aycock and Jenna Maas set a new league best in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:35.68.

Grace Shinske and Will Gayne swept the backstroke events with Shinske taking the 100 (54.94) and the 200 (2:04.28) while Will Gayne recorded times of 50.44 (100) and 1:50.6 (200).

Taylor Bailey – 200 breast

The Golden Grizzlies will take a brief hiatus for Thanksgiving and return to the pool Dec. 6-8 at the Akron Zippy Invitational.

ROCHESTER, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) —The Green Bay swim and dive team competed against Oakland today on the road.  The men were defeated by a score of 226 to 74, while the women fell 193-107 as well.

The highlight for the Phoenix on the day was freshman Emilie Boll breaking her own school record in the 100-breaststroke with the winning time of 1:02.09.

On the men’s side, Max Boehlein took home a pair of first place finishes on the day.  Boehlein won the 100-breakstroke with the time of 55.76.  He then followed that up by winning the 200-breaststroke with the time of 2:03.7.

Xabier Carneiro rounded out the top finishers for Green Bay by winning the 1000 with a time of 9:37.49.

“It’s always exciting as a coach to see improvement week to week and we had multiple athletes swim their season best today”, stated interim head coach Eddie Gillie.  “Today was a real test before we end the completive schedule for the semester.  Everyone took steps forward and we’ll be ready for the House of Champions Invite next weekend in Indianapolis.
