No.2 Cal Men’s Water Polo Roll Past No. 20 Santa Clara, 22-7

SANTA CLARA – The No. 2 Cal men’s water polo team used every field player on its roster – 14 of whom scored goals – and the Bears defeated No. 20 Santa Clara 22-7 on Wednesday evening at Sullivan Aquatic Center.

Nikolaos Papanikolaou had four goals and two assists, Jack Deely tallied two goals and three assists and freshman Roberto Valera had two goals and two assists as Cal (19-2) put the game out of reach with a 10-0 run after leading 5-3 at the end of the first quarter. Papanikolaou had a hat trick less than four minutes into the game.

The Bears used three goalies, with starter Adrian Weinberg making eight saves in just one half of action.

Cal closes out the regular season Saturday against No. 1 UCLA with the MPSF regular season championship on the line. The Bears will honor its four departing seniors before the game.
