Two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Cha O’Leary from Montclair, New Jersey has committed* to swim for Yale University Class of 2020.

“I am so excited to have committed to Yale! Yale offers the perfect balance of academics and athletics, an incredible swim team, and such a happy student body. I cannot wait for the next four years of being a bulldog!”

O’Leary, who swims for Montclair YMCA, excels in breaststroke and IM and has Summer Juniors cuts in both distances of each event. Her top times include:

  SCY LCM
100 breast 1:02.76 1:12.65
200 breast 2:14.81 2:36.27
200 IM 2:08.59
400 IM 4:29.75 5:06.37

O’Leary’s breaststroke times will be a helpful addition to the Bulldogs’ lineup. Yale women finished third in the 2015 Ivy League Championships, and while then-freshman Paulina Kaminski won both the 100 and 200 breast events, the Bulldogs only had two scorers in the 100 and three in the 200. O’Leary would have placed second behind Kaminsky in the 200 and fifth in the 100.

*DISCLAIMER: O’Leary has not yet been officially accepted to Yale. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Yale’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete like O’Leary is for Admissions to review her transcript and SAT scores, “support her application for admissions in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer her acceptance into the class of 2020.
