CARBONDALE, Ill. — In a battle against SEC Mizzou, the Salukis shined, broke two school records, and found lifetime bests in men’s (92-148) and women’s (95-145) losses to the Tigers. The Salukis found growth in quality over quantity with five individual event wins, diving event win, and a relay win.

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
To start off the racing of the afternoon, the SIU relay A squad of Celia Puildo, Mima Zaborska, Jasmine Rau, and Sierra Forbord broke the SIU school record in the 400-medley relay, clocking in at 3:41.26.
Regaining her strength in the 200, sophomore breaststroker Mima Zaborska outswam the Tigers by near five seconds with a 2:13.60 finish in the 200-breast.
Breaking the record for the second time this season, freshman Celia Pulido was the top spot in the 200-backstroke, finishing 1:56.70.
Seeing the podium for the first time all season, senior Laura Mircea dove a near career-best 246.60 on the three-meter, earning the first place title.
The relay A squad (Pulido, Forbord, Desmet, Romero) in the 200-free relay found themselves milliseconds away from the Tigers, finding the second place spot with a 1:34.11 time.
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
Racking into his specialty event, junior Adam Cernek took home the top spot in the 200-back, finding a close personal best at 1:45.36.
Wrapping up the individual events, sophomore Gustav Persson swam a 2:04.19 in the 200-breaststoke. The Sweden-native earned his first first-place title of the season.
Starting off the men in solo events, senior Zheng Yang Yeap hit the wall first, pacing faster than the Tigers at a 1:40.40 pace in the 200-free, a near lifetime best.
While taking second place on the one-meter to Mizzou’s Takuto Endo, freshman Lee Haywood qualified for NCAA Zones in March on the board with a point total of 301.28.
In dramatic finish to end out the afternoon, the relay men’s squad of Zander Minano, Will Chavez, Zheng Yang Yeap, and Donat Csuvarszki were only .04 seconds behind the Tiger’s squad in the 200-free relay.

The women will next meet Illinois and MVC opponent Illinois State at home, Friday, October 29 at 5pm inside Shea Natatorium.
