Women’s Recap

GREEN BAY, Wis. – In the final Horizon League dual of the regular season, the Milwaukee women’s swim and dive team defeated Green Bay 227-69 Saturday afternoon inside the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium.

The Panthers tallied 12 individual victories and had several others place second in the win.

Bella Passamani and Allie Buytendorp each recorded a pair of individual victories to lead Milwaukee. Passamani finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.19 and touched the wall in the 500 free at 5:16.73. Buytendorp placed first in the 200 butterfly (2:12.09) and 200 backstroke (2:10.78).

Nhia Caras continues to pile up the wins, picking up a win in the 100 fly with a time of 58.74. Makaila Scheiblein also added to her season wins total, finishing first in the 200 breast at 2:25.09.

Others to finish first at the meet were Antoni Haupt (10:54.95) in the 1000 free, Skylar Ruggles (58.50) in the 100 back, Cassandra Hutchins (24.62) in the 50 free, and Kelen McDaniels (53.71) in the 100 free.

“We are very proud of our Panthers,” head coach Kyle Clements said. “We have not had to travel and race in the same day since October, and we were impressed with the effort. We have started the transition into our championship segement of the training and are already starting to see the results of hard work. We have a way to go to get to our fastest and final form, but we are on the right track.”

Milwaukee placed first in both diving events with McKenzie Sanchez finishing first in the three-meter dive with a score of 280.28 and Julie Rebek in the one-meter dive with a score of 277.20.

Nine Panthers finished runner-up on Saturday, including Sydney Dahl (10:58.66) in the 1000 free. McDaniels placed second in the 200 free and Scheiblein posted a time of 24.84 in the 50 free to finish behind Hutchins.

Milwaukee tallied a pair of relays wins as well in the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay. In the 200 medley, the team of Molly Meland, Scheiblein, Meghan Jagdfeld, and Hutchins touched thew all at 1:48.01 while the 800 free relay team of Jagdfeld, Passamani, Buytendorp, and Hutchins placed first at 7:51.98.

The Panthers return to the pool in two weeks when they host St. Thomas on Friday, February 4. The dual begins at 5 p.m. in the Klotsche Natatorium.

Men’s Recap

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Milwaukee men’s swim and dive team defeated Horizon League foe Green Bay on Saturday afternoon by score of 163-134 inside the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium.

The Panthers finished with seven individual victories against the Phoenix, along with six runner-up finishes.

Jack Garcia collected a pair of individual wins for the Panthers, placing first in the 500 freestyle at 4:41.76 and 1000 free at 9:39.69. Jay Jensen finished close behind Garcia in the 500 free, finishing second with a time of 4:43.01.

In the 200 free, Jonathan Kollen placed first, touching the wall at 1:44.47. Mason Schoof followed close behind, posting a time of 1:44.88 for second. Schoof finished first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.23.

Zach McClellan (51.65) and John Ruan (52.87) finished in the top two spots of the 100 butterfly.

Jared Kleczka continued to post impressive marks in the diving events, collecting two individual wins. In the one-meter dive, Kleczka tallied a score of 316.13 and followed it with a score of 327.53 in the three-meter dive.

Other Panthers to finish runner-up included Vince Chiappetta (9:53.73) in the 1000 free, Ben Huynh (53.09) in the 100 back, and Zach McClellan (1:56.92) in the 200 fly.

The Milwaukee relay teams had solid days as well, collecting a pair of wins. The team of Ben HuynhSam HaukeJacob Weber, and Jensen finished with a time of 1:36.19 in the 200 medley relay while Garcia, Schoof, Andrew Innerebner, and Kollen swam to 7:04.87 in the 800 free relay.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay swimming & diving team was back in action Saturday afternoon for the first time since November 20. The Phoenix hosted the Millwaukee Panthers for a dual meet at Dorschel Natatorium.

“With so many of our athletes missing training time over the last three weeks with health and safety issues, many of our athletes were not able to perform like they would like,” said diving coach Tom Stover. “However, we saw them battle to the best of their abilities and I was pleased with their efforts. Specifically, for diving, I was very excited for my two freshmen divers, Karlie Woodall and Andy Groebner. Each of them earned their season best scores in both diving events. Senior Miles Rohrbaugh earned another NCAA Zone Cut score on the one-meter board.”

MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • The quad of Calvin KremerMax BoehnleinRafe Dolan Peterson, and Ben Redman started the day off with a win for the men in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a 1:33.01.
  • Kremer continued the winning in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a 52.95.
  • Sebastian Smolecki took first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 59.38.
  • John Burnard took home the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:56.83.
  • Redman took first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 19.98.
  • Redman also took first in the 100 Yard Freestyle, touching the wall in 45.86.
  • Boehnelin finished first in the 200 Yard Breastroke, finishing in 2:00.40.
  • Boehnlein also took first in the 400 Yard IM with a time of 4:08.20.

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Faith Eilertson won the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:06.25.
  • Esther Oswald took second in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a final time of 1:00.54.
  • McKenna Metropulos finished second in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.84.
  • Oswald also took second in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:11.91.

UP NEXT
GB will travel to Madison for a dual meet against the Badgers on Feb. 4 at 3:30 p.m. The following day the divers will travel to Chicago to take part in the UIC Diving Invitational.
