Michigan High School State Finalist Jack Langeland Sends Verbal To Calvin University

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jack Langeland, a senior from Hamilton, Michigan, pledged an in-state verbal commitment to swim at Calvin University next year.

A 100/200 free specialist who can also sprint fly, Langeland currently competes for West Michigan Swimmers and attends Hamilton High School.

I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Calvin University,” Langeland told SwimSwam.

Thank you so much to my coaches that have poured so much time and effort into me making me the person and athlete I am today. Thank you so much to Coach Gelderloos for giving me this awesome opportunity. Lastly, thanks to God for giving me the chance to do what I love. GO KNIGHTS!

As a junior, Langeland showed his grit and ability to deliver for a team at the MHSAA Divsion 3 Championships. He earned back-to-back 3rd place finishes for Hamilton, first swimming a 23.56 butterfly leg on the 200 medley relay. Immediately following that event, Langeland returned to the blocks to put up an impressive 1:42.76 best time in the 200 free, once again placing third. Later on in the meet, Langeland also delivered a 52.55 100 fly best time to place 6th. Both the 200 free and 100 fly times marked new Lakeshore division records of the Ottawa-Kent Conference. To cap off his high school season, Langeland threw down a 22.23 as the lead-off of Hamilton’s 5th place 200 free relay.

A trusted relay lead-off for his high school, Langeland also posted a 47.90 100 free best time on the first leg of Hamilton’s 400 free relay at the Holland Last Chance Meet.

Shortly following the culmination of Michigan’s high school season, Langeland returned to compete at the Indianapolis Sectionals meet. There, he fired off new long course best times in the 100 free (54.52) and the 200 free (2:02.10).

Langeland’s Best SCY Times

  • 200 free: 1:42.76
  • 100 free: 47.90
  • 100 fly: 52.55
  • 50 free: 22.04

As a Calvin swimmer, Langeland will train in a competitive group among the reigning MIAA conference champions. His 200 free would rank him 8th among his fellow Knights last season, while his 100 free and 100 fly would both rank him 11th. If his 200 free were to improve this season, he could contend for a spot in Calvin’s 800 free relay, which qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships. Overall at NCAAs, the Grand Rapids-based team walked away with an 8th place finish.

Langeland is the first person from Calvin’s swimming Class of 2030 to publicize a commitment.
