Mia Saenger Verbally Commits to Life-Long “Goal College” Columbia

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Mia Saenger of Team Eugene Aquatics in Oregon has verbally committed to Columbia University as part of the high school class of 2020.

Primarily a backstroker and sprint freestyler, Saenger is a district champion and Ohio State 6A (big schools) 3rd-place finisher in both the 50 free (24.05) and 100 back (55.43) from February of this year. In the 100 back, that marked her 2nd-straight 3rd-place finish at that meet.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 23.97
  • 100 free – 52.83
  • 200 free – 1:57.13
  • 50 back – 26.23
  • 100 back – 55.43
  • 200 back – 2:01.80
  • 100 fly – 57.52

The backstrokes were a strength for the Columbia Lions last season, but their top finisher in the 100, Mary Ashby (54.42), graduated. Their #2 from last season, Julia Samson (54.61), will graduate this year. Jing Tan joins the team this year with a best of 55.2, and with Saenger to follow, Columbia will rebuild that group quickly.

Saenger swims scholastically for South Eugene High School.

When sharing the commitment of Saenger, her club posted on Instagram a picture of Saenger from 2012 when she was a 10 & under. The club had a “college caps program” where their athletes wear a cap of a “goal college,” and a 10-year old Saenger wore a Columbia cap.

Our own Mia Saenger has committed to swimming for Columbia University next year! Congratulations Mia, we are SO PROUD! Back in 2012 Mia also choose Columbia as her goal school in our 10&U college caps program. Swipe ⬅️ to see the photo. How cool is that!?! #GoTEAM @culadyswim #usaswimming
