POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist swimming and diving team celebrated their seniors Saturday afternoon at McCann Natatorium. Despite frigid temperatures and snowy roads, friends and family showed up to congratulate the numerous graduating Foxes on fantastic careers.

Results

The women picked up a 158-142 victory over Binghamton while the men dropped a tightly contested battle 151-149 to the Bearcats.

Women’s Highlights

• Emma Buztler captured first in the 100-yard freestyle with a finals time of 10:42.23.
• In the 100-yard backstroke, Veronica Stureborg took first with a time of 59.29. Molly Hewett came in third in the same event.
• In the 200-yard butterfly, Melanie Nunn placed first just ahead of fellow teammate Leigh-Anne Zanella.
• The Red Foxes took first and second in the 50-yard freestyle. Nellie Thompson finished first and Margaret Hartman took the silver.
• In the 1-mtr dive, Grace Reeves claimed victory again with a final score of 288.00. Reeves also took the top spot in the 3-mtr dive.
• In the 100-yard freestyle, Thompson took first place.
• Madeline Healey paced the way for the Red Foxes in the 200-yard backstroke, claiming victory with a time of 2:11.56.
• Marist claimed first, second, and third in the 100-yard butterfly with Stureborg coming in first, Ninn placing second, and Sophia Swanson coming in third.
• The relay team of Thompson, Hartman, Stureborg and Butlzer claimed victory for the women in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Men’s Highlights

• In the 200-yard medley relay, Sean Doran, Chris Dauser, Ethan McCormac, and Ahmed Sallam finished in first place and grabbed 11 points with a time of 1:33.52.
• Doran also placed first in the 100-yard backstroke, Sallam finished in third.
• Adam Kapusta captured first in the 200-yard butterfly, fellow teammate Pavel Makarchuk placed third.
• McCormac claimed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.58
• Marist claimed first and second finishes in the 100-yard freestyle with Sallam and McCormac finishing one and two.
• Ryan Kaplan took first in the 200-yard backstroke and Chris Dauser won the 200-yard breaststroke.
• In the 400-yard IM, Kapusta took first place and James Conable won second.
• The team of Sallam, Dauser, Makarchuk and McCormac won the 400-yard freestyle relay for the men.

Records

• The men are now 3-4 on the season and remain 1-2 in conference meets.
• The women improve to 4-3 on the season (2-1 in conference).

Up Next

• This was the Red Foxes final tune-up for the MAAC Championships.
• Both teams head to Buffalo, New York from February 9^th to the 12^th as they pursue MAAC Championship trophies.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Sophomores Courtney Moane, Marley Zimmerman and Liam Murphy as well as senior Chris Egan each won two individual events, highlighting Binghamton’s split against at Marist in a swimming & diving dual meet on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats men’s team took a 151-149 decision while the women fell short by a 158-142 margin.

“Today’s meet was a very competitive one and we are happy with the way our team competed and battled until the end,” head coach Jerry Cummiskey said. “In close meets like today, every place counts and I think we did a good job getting our hand on the wall. I thought we started a little flat but were able to get in a groove through the middle of the meet. There are definitely some areas we can improve upon but we are happy with how we competed overall.”

Moane swept the women’s 100 breast (1:07.33) and 200 breast (2:27.49). She was also on the first-place 200 relay team that included fellow sophomores Kandice Chandra and Molly Greeley along with senior Belen Marriaga and clocked a time of 1:50.82.

Zimmerman, who has now won five individual events in the past two meets, swept the 200 free (1:57.78) and 500 free (5:16.98).

Egan swept both men’s diving events with scored of 341.93 in the three-meter event and 312.92 in the one-meter competition. In the process, he met the NCAA Zone qualifying standards in both events, which are 300.00 in the one meter and 320.00 in the three meter.

Murphy, meanwhile, captured the men’s 200 free (1:44.84) and 500 free (4:45.30).

Other individual winners on the men’s side included senior Ryan Board in the 100 breast (58.85), sophomore Henry Shemet in the 1000 free (9:53.34) and freshman Elijah Lanfear in the 100 fly (51.08).

Freshman Lauren Kuzma was the other first-place finisher on the women’s side, taking the 400 IM with a time of 4:40.52.

Also meeting the NCAA Zone qualifying standard was freshman Jade Liguori in the women’s three-meter diving event. Her second-place score of 290.18 points exceeded the qualifying mark of 280.00 points.

Binghamton returns home for its Senior Day meet against Cornell on Sunday at 1 p.m.
