LIU Women Top Patriot League Rival Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Long Island University women’s swimming team had a big win over a Patriot League foe Friday night, beating Lafayette, 167-127. The Sharks won 11 of the 16 events, and beat the Leopards even with the diving disadvantage.

LIU started the day by winning the 200 medley relay by nearly five seconds. The Shak squad of Amanda PerenTara CabilingJacqueline Grabowski and Noemie Lacroix-Moreau won the events in 1:50.60. LIU then picked up more points in the 1000 free, as Amanda San Juan and Maja Uduc went 2-3, with times of 10:49.80 and 11:00.25 respectively. The Sharks also went 2-3 in the 200 free; junior Jeanne Touchette-McGowan finished just fourth tenths of a second out of first place, in 1:59.47, while freshman Reyna Iwamoto took third in 2:01.06.

The Sharks swept the podium in the 100 back, as Peren (59.40), Grabowski (1:02.23) and freshman Aidan Condit (1:02.81) went 1-2-3 in the event. Peren and Condit also went 1-2 in the 200 backstroke, with times of 2:07.70 and 2:12.55.

Freshman Tara Cabiling and senior Noemie Lacroix-Moreau were also double winners for LIU. Cabiling swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1:09.41, and the 200 in 2:30.78. Lacroix-Moreau won the 50 free for LIU in 25.02, and then took the top spot in the 100 butterfly, winning in 58.90.

LIU also had first place finishes in the 200 butterfly (Amanda San Juan – 2:13.08) and the 200 IM (Jeanne Touchette-McGowan – 2:13.08), and saw another podium sweep in the 500 free. Iwamoto won the event in 5:18.90, while Uduc came in second (5:1.98) and Emily Shoup finished third (5:28.92).

The Sharks capped the night with an emphatic win in the 400 free relay, as the squad of Lydia Amon, San Juan, Lacroix-Moreau and Peren won by nearly five seconds, in 3:39.62.

Up next, LIU hosts Army in a dual meet in downtown Brooklyn, Saturday, November 9 at 2 p.m.

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette women’s swimming and diving team continued its season today with a home meet against Long Island. They put forth a strong effort, but fell by a total score of 167-127.

Sydney Perks got the action going for the Leopards, winning the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 10:44.79 to score nine points in the event.

Tara Leininger also got in on the winning action, finishing first in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:59.03. The win scored nine points in the event. Leininger later came back to also win the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 55.37 for another nine points.

In the one meter diving, Isabella Capachietti took home first place with a score of 183.75 to add another nine points to the Leopards day.

In the three meter diving, Eden Ephraim turned in a strong performance, finishing first with a total score of 154.42 to score nine points.

To close out the day, the foursome of Leininger, Emily RichterSamantha Talecki, and Emily Wilson finished second in the 400 yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:44.13 to score four points in the final race.

Both the men and women return to action tomorrow as they head to Navy for a Patriot League meet against Navy, Bucknell, and American at 12:00 PM EST.
