Jenna Laukkanen had a strong first day at the Finnish Short Course Championships winning both the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM, but returned on Thursday to have an even more impressive performance. Laukkanen took the women’s 200 breaststroke by over six seconds putting up a time of 2:20.75 breaking her own national record of 2:21.30, which was set last year.
Laukkanen also posted a time of 59.17 to win the women’s 100 IM.
Ari-Pekka Liukkonen won the men’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 58.85. Liukkonen bettered his lifetime best of 59.16 by three tenths of a second.
Riku Poytakivi, who broke the 50 butterfly national record on Wednesday evening, took the men’s 100 butterfly in a time of 52.00. Poytakivi was pushed by Tuomas Pokkinen who hit the wall in a time of 52.07.
Niko Makela, who finished fifth in the event, set a new youth national record posting a time of 53.40. The 16-year old set a youth national record in the 50 butterfly in his prelims swim on Wednesday morning.
Fanny Teijonsalo won the women’s 50 butterfly out touching Mimosa Jallow by two one-hundredths of a second. Teijonsalo hit the wall in a time of 26.63 followed by Jallow who finished in a time of 26.65.
