LA28 Releases Full Event Schedule for 2028 Olympic Games

Earlier today, LA28 released the full 2028 Olympic schedule, featuring 51 sports and held across 49 competition sites over 18 days.

Action will kick off on Wednesday, July 12th, 2028, with basketball, cricket, soccer, handball, hockey, rugby sevens, and water polo opening the games two days before the opening ceremonies on July 14th.

You can view the entire schedule here.

Swimming will be held on the final nine days of competition in Los Angeles, with the first events taking place on Saturday, July 22nd, and wrapping up on Sunday, July 30th, the same day as the Closing Ceremonies. Swimming will also be hosting the final medal events of the Games. This differs from the Paris 2024 Olympics in that swimming was held during the first half of the Games. Swimming will be held at SoFi Stadium, where the Opening Ceremonies will be held. It will take a few days to transform the stadium from the ceremony venue to the Swimming arena.

The shift also slots the 100m final for both men and women (track) to the first two days (Saturday, July 15) to kick off competition after the Opening Ceremonies.

Basketball boasts the most days of competition, stretching the entirety of the Olympic schedule, with only one day where action will not be held, that being the day of the opening ceremonies.

The Los Angeles Games will also mark the largest number of female Olympians in history, where for the first time ever, every team sport will feature an equal or greater number of women’s teams compared to that of the men’s teams.

Day 15, also nicknames “Super Saturday” will feature 26 finals sessions across 23 sports, making for the day with the most medal events of the 2028 Olympics; this will include 15 gold and bronze medal matches for team sports, and finals for 15 other individual sports.

Softball, baseball, flag football and squash will all be making their Olympic debuts, while lacrosse will be making its return to the Olympic slate for the first time since 1908 when it was competed in London for medals. Since then, the games only recognized Lacrosse as a demonstration sport in Amsterdam (1928), Los Angeles (1932), and London (1948).

Ticket registration for the games will officially go live in January of 2026.
