The LA28 Organizing Committee announced on Wednesday the full competition schedule for the 2028 Olympics, including nine days of swimming.
Back in July, organizers announced the daily competition schedule of the Games to mark three years out of the Opening Ceremonies, which confirmed to us that swimming would stay at nine days despite the addition of six events: the 50 backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly for both genders.
Now, we know the full schedule, with swimming coming on the second week of action from Saturday, July 22nd through Sunday, July 30.
Swimming is moving to the second week of the Games, and flipping with track & field (usually on Week 2), due to SoFi Stadium, the host of the swimming competition, also serving as the venue for the Opening Ceremonies.
Getting SoFi Stadium ready for swimming will take a “few days,” LA28 said, leading to swimming being moved to the second week of competition for the first time since the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.

While early in the program there are only modest changes, such as the men’s 50 fly and women’s 50 back being slotted into the same event lineup as the Paris Games on Day 1, things get drastically different from there.
The women’s 100 free will move up to the morning of Day 2 (from Day 4), while the men’s and women’s 200 free will be bumped from the second day (prelims) to Day 3 and 4, respectively.
The men’s 1500 free, traditionally at the end of the meet, will now run during Day 3 prelims and Day 4 finals, while the women’s 800 free will be held on the final night of racing. Notably, the women’s 200 fly will also take place on the last day, creating a scheduling conflict for Summer McIntosh. (Stay tuned for a full breakdown of event conflicts in an article later today.)

It’s been signed off by all the major stakeholders including NBC and OBS. It can still change, but not particularly likely unless there’s something that inspires NBC to demand a change. Once tickets go on sale, usually only start times change.
