Junior Nationals Qualifier Lucy Flynn Announces Commitment To Arizona For 2026-27

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Lucy Flynn from Orange County, California will head east next fall with her commitment to swim and study in Arizona’s class of 2030. She wrote on social media:

I’m so super excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Arizona! I want to take this time to thank my family, my friends, my teammates, and Coach Jerry for their unwavering support! I would also like to thank Coach Ben and the rest of the Arizona staff for giving me this amazing opportunity! So excited to be a wildcat! BEAR DOWN!

Flynn is a senior at Villa Park High School and trains year-round with the Orange County Gold. She’s a versatile middle-distance swimmer, strong across the 200, 500, and 1650 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and both IMs. She dropped time in all of those events over the past year, and currently holds personal bests of 1:49.65/4:47.57 in the freestyles, 2:01.92/4:15.46 in the IMs, 2:02.63 in the 200 fly, and 2:15.34 in the 200 breast. Most of her best times were set at local meets, as the majority were set at either the CA RMDA Legends of Coaching meet in November or Sectionals in March.

She qualified for Winter Juniors Championships in back-to-back years and earned her first Summer Junior Nationals qualification last summer. She’s made the top 24 and scored on seven occasions, with her highest finish coming in the 1650 this past month, when she placed 13th.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 Freestyle: 1:49.65
  • 500 Freestyle: 4:47.57
  • 1650 Freestyle: 16:39.80
  • 200 IM: 2:01.92
  • 400 IM: 4:15.46
  • 200 Breaststroke: 2:15.34
  • 200 Butterfly: 2:02.63

The Arizona women, in their second season under head coach Ben Loorz, finished second at the 2025 Big 12 Championships with 1,240 points, 455 points behind conference champions Arizona State. The Wildcat women went on to finish 29th at the NCAA Championships, where they accumulated 20 points. That was a huge improvement from 2024, when they scored zero points.

Flynn is slated to make an immediate impact at the conference level. Based on last season’s results, she would have scored in the ‘A’ finals of the 500 free and 400 IM, as well as the ‘C’ finals of the 200 free, 200 IM, 200 fly, and 200 breast. She also would have finished sixth in the timed finals of the 1650 free.

On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, she would have ranked first in the 400 IM, second in the 500 free and 1650 free, third in the 200 fly, fourth in the 200 breast and 200 IM, and eighth in the 200 free. She’ll be valuable in any event she’s slotted into at various dual meets and could become a staple on the team’s 800 free relay over the next few years.

Flynn joins Lyla Lusk, Pilar King, Kingsley Rosevold, Lucy Flynn, Madison Ensing, Samantha Anderson, and Macey deGroot in committing to the Wildcats’ class of 2030.
