SUMMARY
The primary function of the Graduate Assistant Diving Coach is to assist with day-to-day coaching responsibilities and focus on individual student-athlete development, while pursuing a graduate degree at the university. This position will also assist the Head Coach and coaching staff on the coordination of travel, meet management, equipment management, and fundraising.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other job related duties may be assigned as appropriate by the Head Coach.
- Complete graduate degree within 2 years (4 semesters).
- Develop a training program for diving.
- Collaborate with the Head Coach on ensuring academic performance and personal development of student-athletes is in alignment with institutional and program goals
- Assist the Head Coach and coaching staff with all operations of running a successful swimming and diving program
- Maintain a high level of professionalism on and off the pool deck toward student athletes, other coaches, parents, administrators, and members of the community
- Adhere all St. Thomas, Sun Conference and NAIA rules and regulations
- Assume additional administrative responsibilities within the Athletics Department, as assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelor’s degree, required
- Valid driver’s license, required
- Collegiate diving experience, required
- Able to develop and maintain collaborative relationships, engage in creative problem-solving, and extend enlightened hospitality when working with others.
- Must understand and value the Catholic educational experience for students at St. Thomas University, especially personal/leadership development
- Ability to work early mornings, weekdays, weekends, and some evenings
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to lift 45 pounds
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; collegiate swimming experience
COMPUTER SKILLS
Knowledge in word processing, spreadsheets, Internet access and other industry/job related software.
