Scottsdale Aquatic Club (SAC), one of the premier USA Swimming programs in the Southwest, is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Age Group Coach to join our coaching staff.

This position is ideal for a coach who is passionate about developing young athletes, teaching technical excellence, and helping swimmers build a lifelong love for the sport. The successful candidate will be an energetic leader, strong communicator, and positive role model who thrives in a collaborative team environment.

Position Summary

The Age Group Coach will work primarily with swimmers ages 6–12 and collaborate closely with our other Age Group Coaches and Senior Coaching Staff. This coach will be responsible for helping athletes develop strong technical foundations, competitive confidence, and a passion for swimming while supporting the overall goals and vision of Scottsdale Aquatic Club.

Key Responsibilities

Athlete Development

  • Assist in planning and executing seasonal, weekly, and daily training plans.
  • Teach and reinforce proper stroke technique, starts, turns, underwater skills, finishes, and race strategy.
  • Foster a positive and engaging learning environment where athletes are challenged and supported.
  • Track athlete progress and provide constructive feedback.

Practice Leadership

  • Lead assigned training groups and portions of practice.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and athlete-focused training environment.
  • Encourage attendance, commitment, and accountability among swimmers.
  • Attend and coach at local and travel competitions as assigned.
  • Prepare athletes for competition and provide meaningful race feedback.
  • Assist with meet entries and meet set up.

Parent & Athlete Communication

  • Build strong relationships with athletes and families.
  • Communicate professionally regarding athlete development, expectations, and team policies.
  • Support a positive and welcoming team culture.

Team & Club Contributions

  • Collaborate effectively with fellow coaches and administrative staff.
  • Assist with new swimmer evaluations, tryouts, clinics, and special events.
  • Support swimmer recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Promote SAC’s mission, values, and culture at all times.

Professionalism

  • Serve as a positive role model for athletes.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
  • Adhere to all Scottsdale Aquatic Club, USA Swimming, Safe Sport, and MAAPP policies.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and coaching education.

Qualifications

Required

  • Competitive swimming background.
  • Previous coaching experience with age group athletes.
  • Strong understanding of stroke mechanics and athlete development.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Passion for teaching and mentoring young athletes.

Preferred

  • USA Swimming club coaching experience.
  • Experience coaching swimmers ages 6–12.
  • Experience using TeamUnify, Hy-Tek Team Manager, and Meet Manager.
  • Demonstrated success developing age group swimmers.
  • Desire to build a long-term career in coaching.

USA Swimming Requirements

Must maintain or obtain:

  • USA Swimming Coach Membership
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches (STSC)
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Athlete Protection Training
  • Concussion Protocol Training
  • Background Check
  • Foundations of Coaching
  • Coaches Advantage
  • MAAPP Compliance
