Jersey Wahoos’ Matthew McGough Gives Verbal Pledge to Johns Hopkins

Matthew McGough of Marlton, New Jersey has verbally committed to swim for Johns Hopkins University in 2017-18; his announcement comes two weeks after his sister, Sarah McGough, made her verbal pledge to swim at Fairfield next fall.

“I’m so excited to join Johns Hopkins swim team next year!  I love the team atmosphere and energy on the pool deck!  Coach Armstrong is fantastic and I can’t wait to see what he does with the program!”

McGough is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, where he is captain of the swim team. He finished 12th in both the 200 and 500 freestyles at the 2016 New Jersey Public School Championships, but in club swimming he specializes in IM and backstroke.

McGough swims year-round for Jersey Wahoos. At the NCSA Summer Swimming Championships in August, he was a finalist in the 100/200m backstrokes and the 400m IM.

His top SCY times include:

  • 50 back – 24.57
  • 100 back – 52.13
  • 200 back – 1:50.94
  • 200 fly – 1:53.60
  • 400 IM – 4:02.76
  • 500 free – 4:41.41
  • 1000 free – 9:37.79
  • 1650 free – 16:11.33
