Israeli National Record Holder Gali Zilberberg Commits to Penn State

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Isareli National Record holder Gali Zilberberg has committed to the Penn State Nittany Lions. Whether Zilberberg arrives in the fall of 2020 or in the fall of 2021 will depend on whether or not she is able to defer her mandatory military service.

Zilberberg is primarily a distance freestyler and 400 IMer, and is the current Israeli National Record holder in the 1500 free in long course meters with a 16:44.61 that she swam at the 2018 European Junior Championships. She finished 7th in that race, and also finished 9th in the 800 free at those championships.

In the summer of 2019, she was Israel’s only female representative at the World University Games, but was well-off her best times.

Best Times in LCM (Yards Conversion):

  • 100 free – 1:00.49 (53.05 yards)
  • 200 free – 2:03.31 (1:48.20)
  • 400 free – 4:18.97
  • 800 free – 8:49.99
  • 1500 free – 16:44.61
  • 400 IM – 4:50.63

Zilberberg has an event profile that mirrors that of Penn State’s most recent great swimmer, Ally McHugh, who is the school record holder in the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles, as well as in the 400 IM. She was the 2018 NCAA runner-up in the mile, and 2018 U.S. National Champion in the 400 IM. McHugh (and her primary coach Erik Posegay) are both now at the University of Wisconsin.
