NEW ORLEANS – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team made a splash at the Reily Student Recreation Center Natatorium, winning 11 of 13 events to take a 175-68 victory against Tulane on Saturday.
Houston began the day with fifth-year Chase Farris leading a sweep of the podium in the 3-meter competition, followed by Hedda Grelz and Michelle McLeod. Diving continued its success in the 1-meter as McLeod won her first collegiate event with a 286.43 and Farris taking second with a 286.05.
Houston’s relay team of freshman Elizabeth Jimenez, junior Henrietta Fangli, sophomore Noor El Gendy and junior Mary Catherine Jurica earned first place with a 1:43.66 in the 200-yard medley relay. The Cougars also earned second and third in the event as senior Danielle Titus, freshman Evelyn Entrekin, junior Adelaide Meuter and senior Anna Ervin swam a 1:45.13 while freshman Nora Hetyei, sophomore Virag Peter, junior Abbie Alvarez and sophomore Jenna Kerkman posted a 1:45.68.
Eden Humphrey earned Houston another pair of top finishes in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:04.44) and 500-yard freestyle (5:03.12) while senior Maddie Wallin took third in the 1650 free with a 17:37.18. Freshman Sydney Nethercutt finished second in the 500 free with a 5:06.70.
Sophomore Liya Goupil also earned a pair of first-place marks for Houston with a 23.36 in the 50-yard freestyle and a 51.25 in the 100-yard freestyle. Ervin finished in third and second in the events as well, with times of 24.24 and 52.78, respectively.
Alvarez finished in the top spot of the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:05.72 while also taking second place in the 100-yard butterfly (55.74). Meuter finished just behind Alvarez in the 100 fly, taking third with a 55.88.
Jimenez continued her collegiate success with a top finish of 56.36 in the 100-yard backstroke, closely followed by Titus’ 56.96 in second place.
Entrekin led a podium sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:03.24, followed by Fangli (1:03.44) and fifth-year Audrey McKinnon (1:05.13).
The Cougars’ relay of sophomore Liya Goupil, Jurica, Jimenez and Meuter completed Houston’s first place finishes with a 3:27.42 in the 400-yard freestyle relay with freshman Megan Unruh, Titus, Nethercutt and sophomore Gigi Casten taking third with a 3:34.60.
Jurica and Entrekin rounded out the day for Houston, taking second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle.

Houston concludes 2023 at the Art Adamson Invite in College Station, Texas, from Nov. 15-17.
Following winter break, the team again competes against Texas A&M for a dual meet on Jan. 11, 2024, at the CRWC Natatorium. Admission is free.

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane’s Swimming and Diving team recorded 27 season bests on Senior Day as the Green Wave hosted Houston in the first home meet in the new Reily Center Natatorium on Saturday. The Wave ultimately dropped the meet to the Cougars 175-68.
Tulane celebrated seniors Riley Hendrix, Paige McKenzie, Katie Lipsey, Jennifer Gougelmann, and graduate student Summer Miln prior to the meet.
“Our women did an amazing job competing in every event today,” head coach Amanda Caldwell said. “Proud of the way they stepped up over and over again. Over half of their performances were season bests. What a way to celebrate our seniors in our first meet back home at Reily.”
The Green Wave also boasted a qualifer for the NCAA’s Zone Diving Championships.
Lipsey finished third in the one-meter diving competition posting a final score of 268.88 to register a qualifying mark. She also landed fourth in the three-meter dive with 259.20 points which ranked fourth in the American Athletic Conference.
Freshman Victoria Raymond posted the second-fastest time in the AAC in the 200 Freestyle as she won the event with a final time of 1:51.99. Raymond notched another win in the 100 Fly with a time of 54.20.
Ece Tanriverdi recorded the second fastest time in the conference in the 1650 Freestyle when she finished second in the race with a time off 17:10.70. Her performance also ranks ninth in the event in program history. Tanriverdi also finished third (5:10.98) in the 500 Freestyle (5:14.08).
In the 200 IM, Gwen Shahboz posted the fifth-fastest time in the league when she finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.09. Andrea Zeebe followed right behind Shahboz to land third in the event at 2:08.14, while Quinlan Hinerfeld finished fifth at 2:09.53.
The Wave’s 400 Freestyle Relay team of Raymond, Strongyli, Hendrix, and Olcaytu Hatipoglu achieved the third-fastest time in the conference with a final of 3:30.29 which put the team in second in the event.
Meanwhile, Tulane’s Paula Gaya Bisquerra placed fourth in the 100 Breaststroke with her time of 1:05.26. Grace Dale (24.17) and Hatipoglu (24.46) placed second and fifth, respectively, in the 50 Freestyle. In the 100 Freestyle, Hendrix (52.95) ranked third and Dale (53.39) ranked fourth. Zeebe (57.40) and Hinerfeld (57.53) placed third and fourth in the 100 Backstroke.
