Holy Cross Men Set Pair of School Records As Crusaders Sweep Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Junior Kat Anticev and junior Devin Brindle both won two events, to lead the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team to a 163-135 victory over Iona at the Hynes Center Pool. The Crusaders improve to 1-2 on the season, while the Gaels fall to 4-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Anticev won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a personal best time of 10:25.81, in addition to placing first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.72).
• Brindle claimed first place in both the 100-yard freestyle (51.58) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.22).
• Sophomore Nora Herbstzuber had personal best times in both the 100-yard breaststroke (first place / 1:04.74) and the 200-yard breaststroke (second place / 2:25.05).
• Sophomore Brenna Short won the one-meter diving with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 281.25, while freshman Jillian James took first place in the three-meter diving (241.75).
• Junior Megan Nelson finished first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.74), and senior Nora Smillie came in first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.09).
• The team of Smillie, senior Ainsley Nalen, junior Courtney Boghosian and Brindle won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:32.18.
• Also setting new personal bests for the Crusaders were sophomore Lily Mitchell (1,000-yard freestyle / 10:38.27), sophomore Ellie Reinhart (200-yard individual medley / 2:09.87) and sophomore Samantha Schwarting (1,000-yard freestyle / 10:46.05).

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Junior Austin Cutcher and senior Jack Greiner both set new program records, to lead the Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team to a 150-146 victory over Iona at the Hynes Center Pool. The Crusaders improve to 1-2 on the year, while the Gaels fall to 2-2 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Greiner won the 200-yard butterfly (1:47.95) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.94) with new school record times, in addition to winning the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.65).
• Cutcher set a new school record by winning the 1,000-yards freestyle in a time of 9:31.78.
• Sophomore Griffin Casey won the three-meter diving with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 332.92, in addition to taking first place on the one-meter board (280.22).
• Sophomore Peter Mottolese came in first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.34), while freshman Andrew Villani placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (49.72).
• Also posting new personal best times for the Crusaders were senior Zach Bubonovich (100-yard breaststroke / 55.37), senior Quentin Miquel (100-yard backstroke (52.85) and junior Jake Thompson (100-yards backstroke / 52.19).

IN THE RECORD BOOKS:
• Cutcher’s time of 9:31.78 in the 1,000-yard freestyle bettered the mark of 9:33.03 set by Patrick Walsh at the 2022 Patriot League Championship.
• Greiner broke the 200-yard butterfly mark previously held by Rory Hess (1:50.18 at the 2022 Patriot League Championship), while bettering his own mark in the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.31 at the 2024 U.S. Open Championship).

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – In a night highlighted by more than a dozen close races, the Crusaders of Holy Cross came away with their first wins of the season, as they won both the men’s and women’s dual meet by respective scores of 150-146 and 163-135.
 
The pair of losses dropped the Iona Men’s team record to 2-2 on the season as the women lost for the first time and are now 4-1.
 
The Iona men went down to the wire in the final race, as Nate WalesElijah DecasseresKieran Egan and Harry Platt posted a MAAC leading time of 3:03.25, but Holy Cross claimed second to seal the 4-point win.
 
The Iona men got a record setting performance from Sophomore Max Buchen, who touched first in the 100-yard Breaststroke at 54.95. lowering the 2025 mark set by Matthew Loftus ’25 of 55.12 from 2024. Buchen also took the top spot in the 200-yard Breast at 2:01.96.
 
Other winners include Harry Platt in the 100-free at 46.38; Nick Patino in the 50-Free 20.95; Nate Wales in the 100-Back at 50.24 and Matthew Woyksnar in the 500-Free at 4:38.55.
 
The Iona women got another great effort from Sophomore Reagan O’Brien, who was the lone triple winner on the day taking the top spot in the 100 and 200-Backstroke events and the 200-IM with respective times of 56.64, 2;02.46 and 2:08.87. Other winners on the women’s side included Kate Kennedy in the 200-Free at 1:54.71 and Brennyn Veit in the 200-Breatstsroke at 2:22.23
 
The team gets right back at Saturday as they host Providence College in a dual meet that has diving bouncing off at 11:00am and swimming at 1:00pm.
