GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 9/17/2021

In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.

Tawannah McLemore, 15, TS Aquatics (TSA-FG): McLemore rattled off six first-place finishes at the 2021 Coral Springs Open Invitational in Florida, lowering personal best times in five events. Among those was the 50 freestyle (SCY), where the 15-year-old blasted a time of 23.72 to improve on her previous best (24.24) by more than half a second.

Dario Martin, 17, Olympus Swimming Club (OSC-FG): Martin threw down a pair of personal bests at the 2021 FG Christian Schools Invitational, including a full second-and-a-half drop in the 100 breaststroke (SCY) down to a time of 57.23. The 17-year-old had previously been 58.74 back in November 2020. In the 200 IM, Martin clocked 1:53.25 to chop nearly three and a half seconds off his previous PB of 1:56.71 set in March.

Rebecca Diaconescu, 15, Team Rebel Aquatics (TRA-CA): Competing at Team Rebel’s Labor Day meet in Las Vegas, Diaconsescu hit a pair of lifetime bests, including a 10:19.75 in the 1000-yard freestyle. Negative-splitting the race, Diaconsescu dropped almost 24 seconds off her previous PB.

Ava Fasano, 16, Wilton Y Wahoos Swim Club (WYW-CT): Fasano, competing at the Christian Schools Invitational along with Martin, clocked a best time of 57.24 in the women’s 100 butterfly (SCY), taking out her 57.64 set pre-pandemic in February 2020.
