Georgia Tech Secures Verbal Commitment from 5x GHSA State Champion Lily Burke

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Brookwood High School (Snellville, Georgia) junior Lily Burke has announced her verbal commitment to the in-state Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for 2021-22.

“I’m so excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic careers at Georgia Tech! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches and teammates for supporting me throughout this whole process. I can’t wait to see what my future at Tech brings!! #gojackets”

Burke is undefeated in three years of swimming the 7A 100 free at the Georgia High School 6-7A High School Championships. She has also won the 7A 200 IM in each of the last two years. As a freshman at the 2018 GHSA State Meet, Burke won the 7A 100 free in 50.92 and came in 3rd in the IM with 2:05.07. As a sophomore, she won both events with 51.18 and 2:02.30 and was named Daily Post Co-Swimmer of the Year for Gwinnett. This past season, she repeated her 100 free (51.12) and 200 IM (2:01.98) victories, anchored the 200 free (23.13) and 400 free (51.05) relays, and earned the Co-Swimmer of the Year honors yet again.

Burke moved to Georgia from North Carolina before her freshman year of high school. She swims year-round for SwimAtlanta and competed at 2019 Winter Juniors East in the 50/100/200 free, 100 back, and 200/400 IM. She finaled in the 400 IM and earned lifetime bests in the 100 free and 50/100 back. In March, she swam at Southern Premier where she improved her times in the 50 free, 200 free, and 400 IM. She was a top-8 finisher in prelims of all her events but the 50 free, where she came in 16th. She swam finals of the 50 free (16th), 200 free (8th), and 200 IM (7th).

Top SCY times:

  • 200 IM – 2:01.98
  • 400 IM – 4:18.55
  • 100 free – 50.70
  • 200 free – 1:49.39
  • 100 back – 56.63
  • 200 back – 2:00.88

With a year and a half left before she starts at GT, Burke is already within scoring range in the 400 IM at the conference level (she would have made the C finals this year). It took 2:00.53/4:21.02 in the IMs, 50.06/1:48.65 in the 100/200 free, and 54.44/1:59.19 in the 100/200 back to get second swims at 2020 ACC Women’s Championships.
