Georgia vs George Washington Meet Highlights

Georgia ran away with the meet over George Washington, scoring 492 points to George Washington’s 289 after winning all but one individual swimming event.

The Bulldogs had some strong performances across the board. Luca Urlando was on both of Georgia’s winning relays, and he won the men’s 100 fly in 44.94, which will pass Thomas Heilman for the 2nd fastest time in the NCAA this season, though he is still about a second behind Ilya Kharun’s leading time of 43.91.

Urlando also led off the medley relay, swimming 44.89 in the 100 backstroke, which will also be the 2nd fastest time in the country this year, just four tenths behind Adam Chaney’s 44.46, and on the 200 free relay, he split 19.21.

Kennedi Dobson built on her excellent opening meet for the UGA team with two event wins in the 200 back and 200 IM. In the 200 back, she swam 1:53.92 which is the 6th fastest time in the country this season and a tenth off her lifetime best of 1:53.82. She was 1:58.96 in the 200 IM, which was a second off her best of 1:57.38.

Tomas Koski won two events as well, swimming 1:32.19 in the 200 free and 20.01 in the 50 free. His 200 time is about half a second faster than the 1:32.63 he swam last October, but his 50 free was his 2nd fastest time ever, just a tenth off his best of 19.91 from December of 2022.

George Washington’s Ava Topolewski won the only swimming event for the Colonials, swimming 4:48.36 to beat UGA’s Shea Furse’s 4:48.88 by half-a-second.

Auburn vs Minnesota Meet Highlights

This meet was far closer with Auburn coming out on top by just seven points, scoring 358 to Minnesota’s 351. This differential came from the men’s meet where Auburn outscored Minnesota by 12 points at 189 to 177. On the women’s side, Minnesota won with 174 points to Auburn’s 169.

Auburn started the meet strong with junior Lisa Klevanovich leading off the 200 freestyle relay in a new personal best time of 21.92. This was a two tenth drop from her previous best of 22.12, and is under last season’s NCAA cutline of 22.01.

The Tigers continued their strong meet on the women’s side with Lora Komoroczy swimming 52.70 to win the women’s 100 fly.

Minnesota had a strong showing in the men’s 100 fly with sophomore Jacob Johnson winning the event in 46.30, which would have been 11th in the country this season at the start of the weekend.

Auburn’s Kalle Makinen swam 19.59 in the 50 free to be the only swimmer sub-20 seconds with Auburn freshman River Paulk finishing 2nd in 20.08. Makinen’s time was about two tenths faster than the 19.75 he swam at the SMU Invite last weekend.
