Georgetown Swim & Dive Announces 17 Newcomers To Incoming Class of 2024

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University’s Swimming & Diving teams have brought on 14 freshmen, one transfer and two graduate transfers to complete the incoming class of 2024. The men  will welcome nine newcomers while the women add eight. The group of 17 spans 10 states across the country.

“This class gives us a ton of depth and they all fit in so well with the team during the recruiting process. We’re excited to add them officially this fall and to see how they contribute in and out of the pool.” – Head Coach Jack Leavitt.

Ben Tunila | Manhattan Beach, Calif. | Mira Costa High School \ Villanova University – Men’s Swimming

  • Swam for Villanova during his freshman year.
  • Finished third in the 400 IM (3:52.30) at the 2024 BIG EAST championship and earned an All-BIG EAST honor.
  • Captained his sophomore, junior and senior seasons at Mira Costa High School.
  • Named team MVP in 2022 and 2023.
  • Four year Academic All-American in high school.
  • Three-time Bay League Champions (2023, 2022, 2023).
  • Set a new record while becoming the Bay League Champion in the 200 IM.
  • In addition to swimming, Tunila was a captain and starter on Mira Costa’s Water Polo team.
  • Tunila joins his brother Wilson Tunila and cousin Jack Brearton on the Georgetown men’s swimming team.

Tyler Knightly | Dedham, Mass. | Thayer Academy \ Amherst – Men’s Swimming

  • Swam at Amherst from 2020-24.
  • Named team MVP in 2023 and 2024.
  • At Thayer Academy, Knightly set seven team records and broke the NEPSAC record in the 500 freestyle.
  • Named team captain as a senior.
  • Swam for club team Crimson Aquatics in high school.
  • Junior Nationals Qualifier as a sophomore, junior and senior.

Ryan Mathis | McLean, Virginia | Georgetown Preparatory School \ Boston College – Men’s Swimming 

  • Swam at Boston College from 2020-24.
  • In high school, Mathis swam for Nation’s Capital Swim Club.
  • Metros and National Catholics Meet record holder in 200 Medley Relay.
  • Achieved High School Automatic All-American time in two events.
  • Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention 2 times.
  • Team captain senior year.
  • All-IAC all four years.

Brendan Hodgens | Wayne, Pa. | Germantown Academy – Men’s Diving 

  • Named captain as a senior.
  • First Team All-League in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
  • Received the Donald S. Beard Award: given to a student who best combines academic excellence with total involvement in all aspects of the aquatics program (2022).
  • NISCA All-American (2023).
  • Received Louis R. Spealler Award: for achievement and sportsmanship (2024).
  • Inter-Academic League Diving Champion (2024).
  • Three-time Inter-Academic League Champions (2022, 2023, 2024).
  • Two-time Easterns Interscholastic Combined Team Champions (2022, 2024).
  • USA Diving Zones Qualifier (2022, 2023, 2024).
  • AAU Diving All-American (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023).

Bruno Ribiero | Durham, N.C. | Tesoro High School – Men’s Swimming 

  • Named captain as a junior and senior.
  • Set a team record in the 400 free relay.
  • Swam with the club team Nova Aquatics.

Davis Dunham | Charlotte, N.C. | Providence Day School – Men’s Swimming

  • Named captain as a junior and senior.
  • Set school records in the 200 IM, 100 breaststroke, 400 free relay, 200 IM relay and 200 free relay.
  • Swam with the club team SwimMac Carolina.
  • Winter Junior Nationals Runner Up (2022, 2023) and Junior Nationals Runner Up (2022, 2023).

Owen Watkins | Darnestown, Md. | Our Lady of Good Counsel High School – Men’s Swimming 

  • Named captain as a junior and senior.
  • National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All-American (2023).
  • Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention (2023, 2024).
  • WCAC Second Team (2023, 2024).
  • Good Counsel Swimming MVP Award (2023, 2024).
  • Swam with the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club.
  • Boy’s Team Title at National Club Swimming Association Junior National Championships (2023).
  • USA Swimming Gold Medal Club (2024).

Troy Keen | Waxhaw, N.C. | Marvin Ridge High School – Men’s Swimming 

  • Named captain as a senior.
  • National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association All-American (2021, 2023, 2024).
  • Men’s Swim & Dive  3x State Champion and North Carolina record holder.
  • Four-time 4A NCHSAA Individual Regional Champion (2020-2024).
  • Eight-time All-State, 16-time All-Region, eight-time All-County and 12-time All-Conference.
  • Team, County and Conference Swimmer of the Year (2021, 2023).
  • First Team All-Charlotte Observer Swim Team Selection (2022, 2023, 2024).
  • Captained club team LifeTime North Carolina as a junior and senior.
  • Three-time Speedo Winter Juniors Qualifier.
  • Three-time USA Swimming Scholastic All American.

Wilson Tunila | Manhattan Beach, Cali | Mira Costa High School- Men’s Swimming 

  • Named captain as a senior.
  • Set a school record in the 400 free relay.
  • In addition to swimming, Tunila played water polo during his sophomore and junior years.
  • Swam for club teams Swim Torrance and Alpha Aquatics.
  • 2023 and 2024 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Sara Lin | Sea Ranch Lakes, Fla. | Pine Crest School – Women’s Swimming 

  • Named captain as a senior.
  • Was named team MVP (2023).
  • Bill Rousseau Athlete of the Year (2024).
  • Set the school record in the 100 breaststroke.
  • Swam with the Pine Crest Swim Team for seven years.

Payton Smith | Cardiff, Calif. | San Dieguito Academy – Women’s Swimming  

  • Named captain as a junior and senior.
  • Selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player (2021, 2022, 2023).
  • Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2024).
  • 2023 CIF San Diego 500 Freestyle Champion.
  • Set  a school record in the 500 freestyle, 4×50 freestyle relay and 4×100 freestyle relay.
  • Two-time CIF State Qualifier in the 500 freestyle.
  • Four-time CIF Finals Qualifier in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
  • Four-time Coastal League Champion in the 500 freestyle.
  • Swam with the North Coast Aquatics club team.

Bella Dimaculangan | Stony Brook, N.Y. | Ward Melville High School – Women’s Swimming 

  • County champion in the 200 IM (2022).
  • State finalist in 100 breast (2022).
  • Top 5 in state in the 200 free relay (2022).
  • Set the school record in the 50 free.
  • Swam with Three Village Swim Club.

Natalie Aiken | Orinda, Calif. | Carondelet High School – Women’s Swimming 

  • Named captain during junior and senior seasons.
  • Received the Carondelet Cougar Award 2023.
  • Help her team win the North Coast Section Champions in 2023 and the EBAL Championship in 20’22, 2023 and 2024.
  • Set a team record in the 400 free relay.
  • Swam with the club team Orinda Aquatics.

Kathryn Jewell | Aurora, Colo. | Regis Jesuit High School – Women’s Diving 

  • CHSAA All-State Second Team (2022-2023).
  • USA Diving Zones Qualifier (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).

Kaitlin Lee | Dublin, Calif. | Dublin High School  – Women’s Swimming

  • Named captain as a junior and senior.
  • Selected as team MVP in 2022 and 2023.

Jasmine Fok | Moraga, Calif. | Campolindo High School – Women’s Swimming 

  • Named captain as a senior at Campolindo High School.
  • NCS Section Champions (2022, 2024).
  • DAL League Champions (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).
  • Swam for 10 years with Orinda Aquatics club team and was named captain as a junior and senior.
  • USA Swimming Bronze Medal Club (2023).

Emily Gao | Martinsville, N.J. | The Pingry School  – Women’s Swimming 

  • Placed first in the 200 IM with a personal best of 2:04.88 at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions.
  • Swam a personal best of 1:03.95 in the 100 breast during the 2024 season.
