WOMEN

The George Washington women’s swimming and diving team dropped both ends of a 16-event double-dual meet against the host Hoyas and Atlantic 10 rival Davidson on Saturday afternoon at Georgetown’s Albert G. McCarthy, Jr. Pool.

The Colonials’ 106.00 points against Georgetown was not enough, as the Buff and Blue fell shy of the Hoyas’ 193.00 points in the contest. GW amassed 115.00 points to Davidson’s 184.00 to round out the day’s competition.

The Colonials were paced by race victories in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke by sophomore Carly Whitmer (2:06.82) and senior Janica Lee (2:26.59), respectively.

Freshman Abigail Fusco produced a second-place effort in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.80 after nabbing third place in the 200-yard medley relay with classmate Hannah Kopydlowski, Lee and senior Morgan Zebley in a time of 1:50.54. MEN

The George Washington men’s swimming and diving team fell short against local rival Georgetown and Atlantic 10 foe Davidson in Saturday’s 16-event double-dual meet at the Hoyas’ Albert G. McCarthy, Jr. Pool.

The Colonials amassed 134.00 points against Georgetown, but fell short as the Hoyas finished with a score of 153.00. GW’s 94.50 points against Davidson also couldn’t catch the 153.00 posted by the Wildcats.

Senior Goran Koprivnjak paced the Colonials with four top-five finishes, including three race victories. Koprivnjak won the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.89), the 200-butterfly (1:54.12), and the 200-individual medley (1:56.98), before joining freshman Adam Drury, sophomores Ben Fitch and Bogdan Balteanu for a top finish in the 400-free relay.

Sophomore Liam Huffman posted a second-place performance in the 1000-free (9:42.61), one of four runner-up efforts and a trio of third-place performances that rounded out GW’s top finishes on the day. Junior Oliver Keegan’s time of 1:56.50 in the 200-fly marked the first second-place finish of the day, with Gustav Hokfelt’s 1:57.36 in the 200-backstroke and Huffman’s 4:42.18 in the 500-free also earning second place. The squad of senior Joe Lipworth, senior Adam Rabe, Fitch and Hokfelt took third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.52), while Hokfelt finished two tenths of a second ahead of Lipworth for third (54.12) and fourth (54.32) place, respectively, in the 100-backstroke. In another close finish, Balteanu (48.45) edged Drury (48.75) for third place in the 100-free.
