George Washington Sweeps Women’s A10 Weekly Awards; GW and St. Bonaventure Split Men’s Honors

WASHINGTON – George Washington junior Colleen MacWilliams and her freshman teammate Julia Gomez Carpi were awarded the Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively. St. Bonaventure sophomore Mark Mizsei was named Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, while GW freshman Andres Brooks earned Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Tuesday, are for competitions from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2.

MacWilliams, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, won three individual races helping GW beat Navy. She won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.22), the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.70) and the 400-yard IM (4:20.15). MacWilliams was also a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that won gold in 1:32.90. Her 200-back and 400-IM times are the fastest in the conference.

In GW’s win vs. Navy, Gomez Carpi placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.71). Gomez Carpi, who’s from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.79). Both her 100-yard and her 200-yard times rank second in the A-10.

In a dual meet at Niagara, Mizsei took first place in the 200-yard butterfly (1:47.31) for St. Bonaventure. The Budapest, Hungary native also finished in second place in the 100-fly (48.50). Mizsei’s 200-fly time is the fastest in the A-10 and ranks in the top 100 of Division I times.

In GW’s dual meet vs. Navy, Brooks won gold in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:54.62. He also placed second in the 200-fly (1:48.71). Brooks, an Austin, TX native, finished sixth in he 1000-yard free (9:43.99). His 400-Im time is the fastest in the conference.
