Rising high school senior Dariko Djatej has verbally committed to Cal Poly SLO beginning in the fall of 2021.

Djatej swims year-round for the Spokane Waves Aquatic Team in Spokane, Washington. Last summer, she competed at the USA Futures Championships in Mount Hood.
A breaststroke and backstroke specialist, Djatej also boasts a very strong 200 IM. In 2019, she made finals at the Federal Way Sectionals meet in the 200 yard backstroke, ultimately finishing 32nd. At the 2020 IES Junior Olympics, she finaled in at least one event in every stroke, and swept the breaststroke events.
Her best times in SCY are:
- 100 breast: 1:03.70
- 200 breast: 2:20.46
- 200 IM: 2:05.90
- 100 back: 57.73
- 200 back: 2:03.43
Djatej’s arrival will have an immediate impact on Cal Poly’s program. Her best time in the 100 breaststroke would’ve made the B-final at the 2020 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, while her times in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and 200 breaststroke would’ve placed her in the non-scoring C-final.
At the 2020 MPSF Championships, Cal Poly placed 6th out of 8 teams. Last season, Djatej’s best 100 breaststroke would’ve been the second-fastest on the team behind the now-graduated Amelia Feick. She will overlap three years with class of 2020 commit Lauren Gleason, who also has a 200 breaststroke time that would’ve scored at the MPSF Championship. With her commitment, Djatej becomes Cal Poly’s first recruit from the class of 2021.
