Freshman Sara Omar Sets Multiple USJ Program Records At GNAC Championships

At last weekend’s 2026 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimming & Diving Championships in Worcester, Mass., University of Saint Joseph freshman Sara Omar had a standout performance, resetting multiple program records to help the Blue Jays to a runner-up finish.

Omar set new school records in the women’s 1000 free (11:13.85) and 400 IM (4:54.57) on the opening day of the meet, claiming the title in the former and placing 2nd in the latter.

Later in the meet, she won another title in the 500 free (5:29.52) and placed 2nd in the 200 IM (2:20.40), setting a freshman school record in the latter.

In addition to her individual success, Omar was part of the USJ women’s record-breaking 800 free relay that finished 2nd in 8:45.88.

Earlier this season, at the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships in December, she set new school records in the women’s 200 free (2:03.68), 500 free (5:20.56) and 400 IM (4:55.04).

The Norwich University men’s and women’s teams swept the titles at the GNAC Championships for the fourth straight season, while USJ earned runner-up finishes on both sides.
