A national record bit the dust on day 2 of the 2021 Czech Republic Open, courtesy of European champion Barbora Seemanova.

Competing in the women’s 400m freestyle, the 21-year-old ace rushed to the wall in a final time of 4:08.37 to beat the field by nearly 13 seconds.

Splitting 59.14/1:03.65/1:03.14/1:02.45, Seemanova dropped just over half a second off of her own previous Czech standard and lifetime best of 4:08.89. That mark was produced in November of last year at the Uzbekistan Open Cup.

At the aforementioned European Championships this year in Budapest, Hungary, Seemanova wowed the field in the 200m free, clocking a national record of 1:56.27 to beat out Italian legend Federica Pellegrini and British young gun Freya Anderson. Seemanova did not race the 400m free in Budapest.

In terms of world rankings in this 4free event, Seemanova sits outside the top 25 performers in the world. She owns the Czech national records across all of the shorter freestyle events ranging from the 50m to this 400m free.
