Emma Reaney has been hired as an assistant coach of New York University’s Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams and will be working with all of the training groups.

Prior to joining the NYU staff, Reaney had served as a men’s and women’s assistant swimming coach at St. Francis College in Brooklyn throughout 2021. She planned and led practices, as well as aided with the program’s recruiting efforts.

“I am really excited to have Emma join the staff,” said NYU Head Coach Trevor Miele. “She had a tremendous swimming career and possesses a wealth of experience in and out of the water which she can bring to our program.”

A 2015 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Communication Design and a minor in Business Economics, Reaney was a four-year member of the Fighting Irish’s swim team. As a junior, she set NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), U.S. Open, and American records and won the program’s first-ever individual national title in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.06). Reaney was named ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year and earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

An 11-time NCAA All-American at Notre Dame, Reaney went on to compete as a professional for USA Swimming. She won the silver medal in the 200-meter medley relay at the 2014 World Short Course Championships and took bronze in the 50-meter breaststroke at the 2015 World University Games.

“I am thrilled to be joining the NYU family,” Reaney said. “This university is an incredibly special place that has the highest of standards, both academically and athletically. I can tell that the staff truly values molding each athlete into the best person they can be and I am so excited to help them out in that journey.”

Reaney’s coaching experience also includes stints as a Clinician for the Fitter & Faster Swim Camps (2018-21) and as an instructor at the Notre Dame Swim Camp (2013-14).

A native of Lawrence, KS, Reaney resides in New York City.
