Elizabeth Beisel Scratches 200 Free

Elizabeth Beisel has scratched the semi-final of the 200 free for Wednesday, after qualifying 13th in 1:59.79.

There have been some debatable scratches at this meet so far, but this was a great decision by her and Gregg Troy on the third day of competition. She was becoming unlikely to final in this race, and she has a much opportunity to focus on the 200 IM where the semi-final will also be Wednesday.

Some were scratching their heads that she was entered in the 400 on Tuesday, but she said in post race interviews that they liked to keep their routine as close to a normal meet as possible here in Omaha.

That bumps Cal sophomore Catherine Breed into heat one of the semi-final. Breed is a potential star in the future in these middle-distance frees, so her coaches will be happy to see her get this extra bit of experience.

The new start lists for the 200 free are available here.
