Eight FSU Swimmers Ready To Compete At SC World Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  –  Eight athletes with ties to the Florida State swimming and diving teams will be competing at Aquatics Festival in Abu Dhabi, which will run from Dec. 16-21.

Seven swimmers will race in the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), while former standout Molly Carlson will compete in the FINA World Championships High Diving qualifier, scheduled to start on Dec. 19.

“I’m excited to see our student-athletes at the very highest level,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We’re proud to always have multiple Seminoles in these meets and I’m sure they are going to swim great.”

Current athletes Izaak Bastian, Yordan Yanchev and Lauren Hew can also use their performances to qualify for the 2022 NCAA Championships in March.

Swimming prelims will begin at 12:30 AM (EST) each day at the Etihad Arena and the top 16 in each event under 400m will move on to finals at 9 a.m. (EST). Finals for each event will be competed with finals the following day.

  • 400m free – Dec. 16
  • 200m free – Dec. 17

Lauren Hew – Grand Cayman

  • 50m back – Dec. 19
  • 50m free – Dec. 20

Tayla Lovemore – South Africa (2016-18)

  • 50m fly – Dec. 18
  • 100m fly – Dec. 20

Julio Horrego – Honduras (2017-19)

  • 100m breast – Dec. 16
  • 50m breast – Dec. 20

Emir Muratovic – Bosnia & Herzegovina (2015-19)

  • 50m free – Dec. 18
  • 50m fly – Dec. 19
  • 100m free – Dec. 20

Ida Hulkko –  Finland (2018-19)

  • 50m breast – Dec. 16
  • 100m breast – Dec. 19

Molly Carlson – Canada (2016-20)

  • High Diving (20m) – Dec. 19-20

The FINA High Diving meet will serve as the final qualifying event for the 19th FINA World Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Fukuoka, Japan in May of 2022.

Two rounds will take place on Dec. 19, starting at 3 a.m. (EST), followed by the final two rounds on Dec. 20 at 3:30 a.m. (EST).

Carlson was invited to join the 2021 Red Bull Cliff Diving circuit as a wildcard and instantly became a contender after winning silver in her first competition. Carlson remained on the 2021 circuit and finished the season in third place.
