East Carolina Aquatics Forms From Two National Team-Producing Clubs

In club swimming news, two prominent clubs in North Carolina have combined to form East Carolina Aquatics.

Greenville Swim Club has renamed itself as East Carolina Aquatics, and was the junior-level stomping grounds of Olympic gold medalist and NCAA standout Lauren Perdue. They have merged with the Carteret Currents, who developed Chip Peterson, winner of the 2005 World Championship in the 10km open water race.

The new club will retain the East Carolina Aquatics name, with Casey Charles from Greenville/ECA becoming the CEO and Head Coach.

Randy Jarmin will become the Head Site Coach at Carteret. His former coaching jobs include as the head coach at NCAA program Radford, an assistant at East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina, the head coach of the Douglas Stingrays, and the Head Age Group Coach of the North Carolina Aquatic Club.

“Both teams value Eastern NC and the type of people and athletes from our area,” Charles said of the merger. “This helps to preserve one philosophy throughout the East.  The move will obviously allow for stronger relays at local, state, regional, and national competitions.  It helps to fulfill the mission of the ECA which is to develop a regional team in Eastern NC.”
The new team will serve the areas of Beaufort, Cape Carteret, Morehead City, Greenville, Kinston, and Washington. We’ve included a map below where Point A is Greenville and Point B is Carteret that shows the area served.
More signs of the merge-movement going on in club swimming that is seeing more-and-more teams unite to form multi-site mega clubs, especially on the east coast.

Pay attention to this program and coach. This is another positive move for NC Swimming at the national level. Congratulations Coach Casey.
